COUNSELLING and PSYCHOTHERAPY in Clapham – Putney, Wandsworth, South West & Central London
Does getting up everyday become an effort?
Is going to work and getting through the day a struggle?
Does anxiety become so overwhelming that paralyzes the body and renders the mind unable to think? Does panic settles in when is least expected, feeling like dying and debilitating any move?
These all too real problems could incapacitate us and hinder our ability to function.
Life is an inexplicable puzzle. When you feel that you got a grip on it and can handle anything that it can throw on you, it is then that you could also realise how vulnerable and susceptible you are.
Life in the city means to be productive, efficient and move fast. We take for granted that as long as we are active and achieve the standard goals everything will be fine.
It is when things are not working well for us that we realise that we may need assistance and support to gather our thoughts, find the courage to make important decisions, become aware of the hidden factors of given situations. Life struggles could also be turned into golden opportunities to explore the most fundamental aspects of our existence regarding who we believe we are and what is meaningful in our lives, how we are living our lives and what could be missing.
Going to therapy can help you deal with the challenges that life places in your path, explore how you respond to your relationships, remember who you are, what you actually want, and what choices you need to make, embrace the whole range of life’s experiences without losing your balance.
Existential challenges can open the door to our inner scenery and reveal to us some fundamental truths that life is a paradox and a mystery and each one of us makes sense of it in their own way by writing our own scenarios.
My name is Flora Malakasi and I am an existential psychotherapist and counsellor offering therapy to individuals, couples and groups. My practice is a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment in Putney and Clapham, Wandsworth, South West London but I also work in Central London and via Skype. I offer therapy sessions in both English and Greek. I also provide clinical supervision to professional therapists and trainees. I have been practising psychotherapy and counselling for the past 20 years and offering support and assistance to clients in exploring their relationships and becoming aware of their assumptions so as to make better sense of their experiences.
By examining our assumptions and cultivating self-knowledge and awareness we become able to overcome those issues which may feel overwhelming and anxiety provoking. Severe anxiety can be debilitating and overpowering but being understood as the outcome of choices we have made in the past and can continue making in life within the context we find ourselves into, then we can feel more in control of our lives. By exploring our ‘worldview’ in therapy, it becomes possible to understand these choices and create new opportunities to develop and see a way out of our personal affliction.
In exploring our relationships we also explore the way that everything we do is dependent on the context of our lives. Existential therapy is a relational and graceful approach that becomes relevant and useful in exploring the incredibly varied and individual challenges life presents to each one of us, in a unique way. Existential therapy is a clear, direct and honest approach helping clients work on their particular, unique experiences, problems, dilemmas and issues. It is appropriate for both short and long-term therapy.
As a psychotherapist/counsellor, I work together with each client with the aim to enhance understanding and the development of insight. You retain the power to choose what you disclose and the degree to which you use enhanced insight to make any changes to your life.
Testimonial: "Flora was extremely helpful for me during a difficult period of my life, when I was suffering from anxiety issues. She was an understanding and thoughtful listener who enabled me to work out the causes of my anxiety. Although her approach was focused on helping me work out what was going wrong and what I wanted from my life, she also offered useful and insightful advice which helped me deal with various problems. Overall, I am in a much better state of mind as a result of working with Flora, and I would recommend her to anyone going through a difficult period, or suffering from issues such as anxiety or depression."
